A fascinating tale of weaving by Ethimo and Studio Zanellato/Bortotto

Ethimo and Studio Zanellato/Bortotto have designed Patio, a new line of outdoor furnishings that stand out for their creative use of weaving teamed with the natural beauty of teak.

Patio is a lounge collection with welcoming shapes and a cocoon function, conceived to hug the body in a comfortable embrace. Its name and special arched weave recalls the traditional inner patios so typical of Spanish architecture, where porticoes and loggias housed the various rooms in the house, opening out onto the uncovered courtyard with pools and fountains decorating the garden.

A welcoming place that brought the indoors outside.

This particular pattern, which features on all the elements in the collection, brings to mind the art of weaving typical in the east. An ancient tradition, still today used to create baskets, trays and everyday objects.

“The Patio collection,” explains Studio Zanellato/Bortotto, “stems from our passion for the variety of weaves and patterns discovered on our travels. We designed a series of motifs as 3D surfaces that could be become the decoration and structure of a series of outdoor seating elements. The latter become true frames in wood and teak into which skilled craftsmen weave close patterns based on our suggestions, tests and inspirations, gathered with this new project in mind for Ethimo.”

Patio is a big complete collection, made up of lounge and dining elements.

The lounge range includes an armchair, three-seater sofa, daybed and coffee table with enamelled lava stone top, in the colours fog or moss green. All the pieces feature the elegant weave on frames in light grey outdoor rope and an unusual arched weaving that stands out in the soft lagoon blue colour. The seat cushions, large and soft in texture, come in shades of sand and sea, while the decorative ones, designed to add extra comfort are in a soft fabric in the shades of Mediterranean flowers.

The lounge section of the Patio collection is rounded out by a comfy hammock for chilling in the open-air. This element, the epitome of relaxation, is characterised by a sophisticated weave in a pattern that looks like waves, recalling the typical swaying of the hammock.

The lounge solutions are joined by those for dining, with a round table (Ø140cm) and an oval one (200×120 cm) and small armchairs teamed with a padded cushion that copies the arched weave of the other chairs.

The table tops are in cross-cut travertine and Cipollino marble.

The bases for the dining tables, like those for the coffee tables, are inspired by the world of sailing, in particular by the nautical ropes that wrap around the mooring bollards on the quayside: in teak, the structure is embraced by the lagoon blue rope that characterises the entire collection.

Patio is a new experience of relaxation, wellbeing and conviviality in the open air, the ideal collection for furnishing residential spaces with personality and a complete range for enhancing contract hospitality settings.
