Ethimo and La Mamounia 23.10.2024
Marrakech, Morocco
La Mamounia, meaning ‘safe paradise’, is much more than a hotel, it’s a destination, a ‘monument’ capable of combining traditional Moroccan architecture with Art Deco fashion. Exotic, scenic, refined, La Mamounia, Marrakech, boasts a long history and tradition of authentic luxury hospitality.
Established in 1923, it immediately became synonymous with excellence and an icon of timeless charm, with its extraordinary interiors, rich in mosaics, arabesques, shapes, decorations and details that reflect the culture and rich artisan tradition of this evocative land. The imposing complex is surrounded by gardens that extend for over eight hectares, dating back to the 18th century when they were given as a wedding gift by Sultan Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah to his son Mamoun, transformed today into an astonishing and lush oasis of peace and beauty.
In 2020, La Mamounia was the protagonist of an important restyling project curated by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, under the direction of General Manager Pierre Jochem, with the aim of preserving the charm and historical aesthetics of the entire structure by introducing contemporary elements capable of combining harmoniously with the whole.
Now appreciated by the international jet set and winner over the years of numerous awards for its excellence in the hospitality sector, the hotel is cared for in every space, environment, room and suite to give guests a complete aesthetic and sensorial experience, emphasised by a series of exclusive and high quality services, such as a spa (which extends over 2,500 m2), swimming pools, cinema and gourmet restaurants, all touched by a fairytale atmosphere.
Design is a tangible ‘value’ here and defines the overall experience of well-being, charm and relaxation.
The collaboration with Ethimo was born thanks to the ability of its furnishings to create outdoor spaces that offer contemporary comfort while maintaining a strong connection with nature and tradition, suggesting a perfect synergy between craftsmanship and aesthetic refinement.
The link between Ethimo and La Mamounia represents a perfect example of how contemporary design can be integrated into such a prestigious and history-laden context, giving life to environments that respect and enhance the existing heritage, generating experiences of true well-being in the open air.
To furnish many of its outdoor spaces, La Mamounia has therefore chosen Ethimo both for its ability to combine comfort, functionality and beauty in every furnishing proposal, and because both share a vision of excellence, attention to detail and quality in hospitality.
Grand Life by Christophe Pillet and Kilt by Marcello Ziliani are the lines selected to characterise the lush and sophisticated environment of La Mamounia, collections that underline how contemporary Italian design can emphasise, with uniqueness, environments with an exotic atmosphere.
The natural materials that give shape to these collections, such as teak and rope, recall local artisan traditions and generate a spontaneous, cultural and stylistic connection with the territory.
Ethimo’s outdoor space reflects the exclusivity of the hotel, creating a coherent and harmonious atmosphere.
The result is open-air rooms that invite guests to relax and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of nature, in keeping with the overall luxury experience that La Mamounia offers.

Grand Life, lounge armchairs and coffee tables, design by Christophe Pillet
Expression of the Italian Way of Life, the Grand Life line embodies the standards of excellence of workmanship, quality craftsmanship and innovation, comfort and design. The structure of the furniture is made of teak (FSC certified) with a metal core, while the backrest of the different types of seating comes from the skilful and refined weaving of acrylic rope. Soft cushions with generous shapes, made with fabrics that are soft to the touch and specific for outdoor use, increase the sense of comfort and well-being. The coffee tables are always made of teak, with a ceramic stone top.
Kilt, dining armchairs, design by Marcello Ziliani
The enveloping silhouette of the Kilt dining chairs takes shape through a dense weave of taut rope which, embracing the teak structure (FSC certified), designs the backrest and seat, ensuring comfort and resistance. In an ideal mix of elegance, ergonomics and functionality, Kilt lends itself to being combined with different types and styles of dining table.
